Is Playing Online Poker With Play Chips A Complete Waste Of Time???
Is playing online poker with play chips a complete waste of time? In a word, Yes*. (We’ll get to the * in a bit). Playing with play chips does absolutely nothing to improve your game. Most people who play using play chips downloaded the “.net” version of the poker software and actually have no idea there is the “.com” version to play for real money. Some poker sites try to set things up so that players get the message that they should download the .com version to get some real money action, but some sites don’t.
Now keep in mind that these .net people are the people that most likely learned about the site from TV advertisements. “Play for free at [insert your favorite poker site here].net!”
These people have very little poker skills. You won’t be able to tryout any new poker strategies because most of them wont even know what the proper plays are in these situations to test your theories out.
Keep in mind that these players aren’t Donks. A donk knows what the proper plays are in situations, but willfully goes against normal poker behavior because they’re hard-core gamblers or they just don’t care. Novice poker players simply don't know any better so any strategies that you would practice at a play chip table would be voided.
Now, lets say that you’ve become a play chip pro! You’ve accumulated millions of play chip dollars. Now that do you do? Nothing! My thoughts are that by the time you’ve created this fake fortune, you now know about the .com site and you are ready to play for real money. That’s great but keep in mind that those play chip skills will not translate to real money games. It’s like mastering a race car game then trying to drive for a NASCAR team. There is a learning curve to playing real money poker games online and transitioning from play chips strategies to real money games will hurt you during this transition.
Back to the “*” that I mentioned earlier. Full Tilt has daily 500,000-play chip tournament that has a $40 real money prize pool. As far as I know, this is the only site that has provided a way to turn play chips into real money. I’ve also seen websites that claims to purchase play chips for real money, but at all of the poker sites that I play, I don’t have an option to transfer play chips. Now that doesn’t mean that it can’t be done, it just means that I haven’t seen it done.

Is Playing Online Poker With Play Chips A Complete Waste Of Time??? :: Comments
booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo playchips totally worth it
at Carbon Poker you get 1000 play points a day and you can use 250 pts to get a ticket to a FunStep1 6 player table. You win that table and get a ticket to FunStep2 another 6 player table. Win that table and get FunStep3 ticket, which is a 10 player table. Win the third table and get $1.00 real money. So, you can use your play points to buy 4 FunStep1 tickets a day, win 3 table with 21 players and get $1.00. Carbon is a great site
i host a play chip sit n learn at my forum to introduce members to a new game and it been well used by our members we play @ UBevery sat afternoon 1pm
i use playchips to relax and help me focus when im playing a large cash tourny... helps me have patience by playing both at same time..
I play another cash tourney...
I respectfully disagree. Play chip games actually do serve a variety of purposes.
It may be true that there's not a lot of value for experienced players, but for total newbies, play chip games are a good way to become familiar with the various types of poker.
Even players with lots of experience with one type of poker can use play chip games to learn other types.
While it seems like every play chip table is filled with utter donks, there are ways to find more serious players. And, although all the experience you pick up at play tables isn't exactly transferable to real money tables, a lot of it is. Granted, you probably aren't going to be able to productively explore the fine points of advanced strategies, but if you are paying attention and are at all perceptive, there is a real value to logging tons of hours and getting a feel for the game for free.

I started from scratch at full tilt, I think playing with play chips is good to start off with and get the hang of it, I agree it's worthless now to me, cause I graduated fom play chips to real money lol
I've had over 6 million in play chips, but I thought I was the shit really. But now I realize it is worthless kinda though, cause like you said "Full Tilt has daily 500,000-play chip tournament that has a $40 real money prize pool. I've played in that tourney or freeroll whatever it is, and I have made $2 from that game. It's worthless, but it is possible to make money out of it...
So it can be a complete waste of time if you don't use your play chips wisely meaning play the $40 freeroll when you get enough to buy in..
