Should you allow someone else to play on your account

Post by Samango on Sat Mar 24, 2012 8:03 pm

Nancy recently asked in chat if someone could play a game for her on Carbon and I replied that I thought it was unwise because it would breach terms and conditions of the site and would also open her account up to possible abuse by whoever had access to her password.

Nancy has asked for clarification on these points so first:- I may have overstated the facts with regard to the terms and conditions Embarassed

http://www.carbonpoker.ag/aboutus/terms.html

On this page, condition 19 states:

Disclosure to Third Parties.

You agree to keep your Account secret and confidential and to not allow anyone else to use it. If you intentionally or unintentionally, directly or indirectly, disclose your Account Name and password to another person, and such disclosure results in a third party participating in the Games using your Account Name and password, such participation shall be valid, and you will not be refunded any resulting losses at CarbonPoker.ag, regardless of whether or not the third party had your consent or not. The Company shall not be required to maintain Account Names or passwords if you misplace, forget, lose, or are otherwise unable to enter CarbonPoker.ag because of anything other than the Company's error.

So it does say that you must agree to keep it secret and not allow anyone else to play—but then suggests (but doesn't state) that there won't be any penalty if you do.

So although it does breach the terms and conditions (because it does say 'agree to not allow anyone else to use it') maybe it isn't considered to be a major problem.

However, what if I were logged by some sort of security tracking software, logging into my account and Nancy's from the same IP. I can imagine a scenario where this could happen and both accounts could be considered multi-accounts (Condition 18-1). We might get the chance to explain ourselves and still be considered to have breached condition 19. We might not get the chance to explain ourselves!

It just seems to be courting trouble to me but maybe I'm too cautious

I would think that having your son play it for you, as you have suggested, shouldn't be a problem (assuming that he doesn't have his own Carbon account and is of legal age to play). Is he any good?

As for the password issue, as you suggested you could change to a new temporary password (I'm not thinking of your son here) but I do remember Gone Greedy had her account cleaned out after allowing one person to play one game for her! So be careful
