09/23/10 - Super Harvest Moon on the Autumnal Equinox
Tonight is the Autumnal Equinox
In the Northern Hemisphere we are now halfway between midsummer's day and midwinter's day and that means the start of Autumn
Farmers call the full moon closest to the equinox the Harvest Moon, and would rely on the extra light it provided to harvest the crops
Tonight though, in North America, for the first time in 20 years the Harvest Moon actually occurs on the equinox, a Super Harvest Moon!
Just as the Sun is setting in the West, the Full Moon will rise in the East giving two sources of light in opposite directions
As well as this, when the Moon is still low you will probably see the Moon Illusion, where the Moon seems abnormally large, and you may see Jupiter as a bright star like object close to the Moon
Unfortunately, I don't think we will have such a good show in the UK so take your cameras out with you and enjoy

You know what... I noticed how the moon was giving off extra light today. It was a sight to see. I had no idea about all of this stuff Sammy old boy wrote, but I'm glad I got a chance to witness it.
